For nearly six Silhouette has been a pioneer in premium eyewear, blending craftsmanship, innovation, and sustainability. Founded in 1964 by Anneliese and Arnold Schmied, the Austrian company remains the largest independent, family-owned optical company in the industry.

Ac Magazine recently sat down with third-generation family member Michael Schmied, who serves as chief marketing officer and global head of the Silhouette brand to talk about the company’s initiatives. In addition to overseeing design, corporate public relations and communications, Schmied is also responsible for the Evil Eye sport eyewear brand and Silhouette Vision Sensation.

From the beginning, sustainability has been deeply woven into Silhouette’s DNA. “As a family business, we take a long-term view and act in the best interests of our planet’s future. After all, what good are premium glasses if we cannot enjoy the beauty of nature around us?” Schmied said.
