To stylist Memsor Kamarake, fashion isn’t simply about what we wear — it’s a passport, a language, and a way to connect with the truest parts of ourselves. Born in New York City to Sierra Leonean parents — his mother a seamstress, his father a diplomat — he grew up between worlds. Life in Russia, Sierra Leone, and London shaped his outlook, with London playing a pivotal role in shaping both his education and early identity.
His career began on the sales floor at The Gap, where he was drawn to the quiet art of visual merchandising. Around that time, a chance encounter with an issue of VIBE magazine at a corner newsstand changed everything. Treach from Naughty by Nature graced the cover; inside, hip-hop and high fashion collided in a way that lit a spark. “I ate up every page,” Kamarake recalled.
