Grandview Klein Diamonds: Behind the Brilliance

Old-world expertise and new-world technology enable vivid colors and exceptional “specials” to shine at this NYC-based diamantaire.

The Accessories Council team recently visited Grandview Klein Diamonds (GKD), one of the few remaining diamond-cutting factories in New York City. Located in the heart of the Diamond District, the company’s offices house a fully operational cutting facility, offering a clear view into a segment of the industry that has largely moved overseas. Observing GKD’s master diamond cutters at work underscored the precision and technical skill required at every stage of the process, as stones move methodically from rough to finished form.

Hosted by Brandee Dallow, chief communications and sustainability officer, the visit provided a rare look at diamond cutting in the United States. GKD, owned by AD Klein and his sons, Moshe and Shaya Klein, is said to be the country’s largest diamantaire (by value) and among the small number of firms that continue to cut and polish diamonds domestically — an increasingly uncommon practice, given that the vast majority of the world’s diamonds are now cut and polished in India.
