There are blondes — and then there are blondes. Cornelia Guest belongs firmly to the latter: a woman whose name is synonymous with American style, even as her influence extends well beyond fashion. She grew up immersed in exceptional clothes and accessories, shaped in no small part by her mother, C.Z. Guest, whose wardrobe was among the most photographed and admired of her era.
That inheritance of style is not simply a memory but a living legacy — one Cornelia is now bringing back into public view. Years ago, a significant portion of her mother’s clothing and accessories was donated to the Savannah College of Art and Design. Those items are the foundation of an exhibition planned for 2027 that will be curated by Cornelia alongside Italian fashion journalist Stefano Tonchi. The show will feature designs by Oscar de la Renta, Adolfo, and custom-made pieces that reflect the craftsmanship of the era.
At the same time, select evening bags and personal items that remain in Cornelia’s care, will offer a more intimate counterpoint — and a reminder of how timeless accessories can be.
Cornelia vividly recalls borrowing her mother’s handbags — many custom-made to match her shoes — and being gifted special pieces by her father during his travels, including a raspberry-red Gucci crossbody. Today, her approach to fashion is refined and practical. She gravitates toward pieces that are beautifully designed but functional. A current favorite is a reversible Bottega Veneta tote — lightweight, versatile, and ideal for travel — which she often pairs with a simple clutch for essentials.
