In a world where fashion is fast, Back at the Ranch cowboy boots are anything but. Woman-owned, woman-founded, and handcrafted in the USA, this Santa Fe-based legacy brand stands as a beacon of craftsmanship, creativity, and resilience.
Wendy Henry, the founder of Back at the Ranch, never intended to start a Western empire. In the 1980s, she ran a successful ready-to-wear boutique, Wendy Lane, on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Her designs, including vintage blanket coats and broomstick skirts, became an insider favorite, even inspiring fashion heavyweights like Ralph Lauren. But New York’s energy eventually wore her down.
“I looked at myself in the subway one day and just knew I was done,” recalled Henry. She packed up her life and headed west in search of something new. A weekend detour in Santa Fe turned into a life-defining moment: “I liked the vibration, the light, the inspiration — it was immediate. I knew this is where I wanted to live.”
