The Art of Everything: Andrew Egan and The Creative World of CoolGraySeven

There’s no better way to understand the creative force of Andrew Egan — creative director and photographer — than through the lens of a recent Ac Magazine shoot.

His vision for an eyewear story extended well beyond the usual considerations of model, lighting, and mood. He wanted to find the perfect complement to the eyewear itself. The spark came from a simple image: a girl holding a sheet of brown paper that almost resembled a dress. What began as a casual observation quickly became a creative challenge. “What if we made couture garments from brown paper?” he asked.

For Egan, the question was not rhetorical. He gathered brown paper, packaging materials, and masking tape — anything that could fold, pleat, or sculpt — and began meticulously crafting each look by hand. Hours were spent scrunching, shaping, moulding, and refining every garment so it could be worn, moved in, and admired. Inspired by couture silhouettes and the precision of artistic costume design, he created ten extraordinary paper ensembles, each one a piece of wearable art. Those who know Egan were not surprised. This is what he does — he takes an idea and relentlessly refines it until it becomes something extraordinary.

CoolGraySeven is a branding and advertising agency for fashion, lifestyle, and luxury brands, and Egan — born and educated in the United Kingdom — is its founder and creative director. His client roster spans the breadth of the industry, including Natori, Prabal Gurung, Walters Faith, Ev & Em, Naghedi, Donna Karan’s Urban Zen, and ABC Kitchens, among others.

When the Accessories Council acquired the rights to Accessories Magazine in March 2020, the publication — dormant for several years — needed to be redesigned and reimagined from the ground up. Egan and his team were the natural choice.
