Simeon Farrar, founder of the cult-favorite streetwear brand Black Score, embodies the intersection of art, fashion, and unapologetic self-expression. Growing up in Surrey, south of London, Farrar’s artistic journey was nurtured by his parents, who both had careers in the arts. He pursued painting at art school, but his passion took an unexpected turn when he began painting on T-shirts. “A canvas has fixed edges, but when art is worn, it feels alive,” Farrar explained. This shift led him to redefine his medium, transitioning from traditional paintings to what he calls “fashion art.”

His early foray into the fashion world began with hand-painted shirts that caught the attention of high-end retailers like Barney’s and Harvey Nichols. Winning the New Gen award cemented his position in the industry, providing him with both a platform and the resources to grow his eponymous label, Simeon Farrar.

Yet, it was the launch of Black Score in 2012 that allowed Farrar’s rebellious and humorous spirit to shine. Black Score gained notoriety through its disruptive stunts at London Fashion Week, where Farrar and his team gave away free T-shirts bearing satirical slogans. “We didn’t just want to make clothes; we wanted to make noise,”absurdities of the world is through satire,” Farrar mused.

While Farrar’s Simeon Farrar label explores softer, more romantic aesthetics, Black Score thrives on its edgy, artistic essence. Balancing these two creative outlets requires discipline. “They’re such different mindsets. I dedicate specific days to each label so I can fully immerse myself in their worlds,” Farrar said.
