Armitron Loves Every Second

Celebrating 50 Years
Armitron has been keeping America on time since 1975. This year marks the family-owned business’s 50th anniversary, and with it comes a powerful reminder of the brand’s lasting impact on the fashion watch industry. The parent company, E. Gluck, was founded by Eugen and Jean Gluck and is now led by their daughter
Barbara Weichselbaum. As CEO, Weichselbaum continues to uphold the values that have made Armitron a household name.

The American Dream
Armitron’s story began in the most unexpected of places — against the backdrop of the unimaginable horrors of WWII and Auschwitz. Eugen Gluck, a survivor of the Holocaust, made a promise to himself: “I’m going to survive this. And I’m going to show you how human beings are supposed to treat each other.” Gluck and his wife Jean settled in New York City and embraced the American dream. And while they got their start with a bakery delivering bread in Brooklyn, they soon founded the E. Gluck Trading Company, which became a subsidiary of Armin Corporation, an entity that specialized in digital watches.

What's In A Name?
The name Armitron, in fact, was formed by combining the words Armin and tron (from
“electronics”) in a way that honors the company’s history while focusing on technology and the future. E. Gluck and the Armin Corporation parted ways in the late 1970s, but E. Gluck retained the rights to the Armitron brand. The history of the company is on display in its New York City showroom and highlights vintage items along with a number of high-profile collaborations, including ones with the artist Peter Maxx, characters from Garfield and Looney Tunes, Star Trek and Monopoly, to name a few. For over 40 years, Armitron has also been the
official timepiece of the New York Yankees, a sponsorship that includes the iconic Yankee Stadium clock.
